Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Add a Little Sparkle

This weekend I was feeling particularly adventurous in the nail polish department.

It's my idea of a wild time, I tell ya! ;)

I decided to have a little fun with color and glitter.

On my nails, I went with Zoya Creamy, a bright, sunny yellow. Typically this color scares me as nail polish because I think that it can easily look messy or unflattering, especially if not applied evenly. I am happy to report that Zoya makes such fabulous polish and this lived right up to its name. It went on creamy and even, leaving a happy lemony shade.

On my thumb and ring finger, I added a dusting of Deborah Lippman's Happy Birthday for good measure. I loved this look! So sparkly and fun without being too over the top (or causing severe issues when trying to peel this glitter off at a later day. 4 fingers vs. 10 makes it a lot more palatable!).

Then it was time for the toes! I did not want yellow on my toes. It just seemed a little 'fungusy' to be a toenail color. Instead I went with a bold red, Essie's Bungle Jungle. I really love this color. So pretty with just a hint of shimmer. I also added a layer of Happy Birthday to my second toe on each foot for a little extra fun! Oh and please excuse my utterly less-than-perfect pedicure :)

So those are the colors I'm rocking this week. Nothing says crazy birthday weekend like sparkly nail polish, right?! ;)

Happy Monday everyone!

Five Things Friday

Happy Friday, all! I have to take a moment to tell you a giant THANKS for all of your kind words of support on yesterday's post. Knowing that I'm not alone and that you support some healthy changes on the blog has renewed my motivation. I am ready to tackle the world today! ;)

It's Five Things Friday, and this is quickly becoming my favorite post of the week to put together. I just love picking out a few fun things from the week to tell you about - it's also a total mood booster to appreciate a few little things in life!

Flavored & Fun K-Cups

Shaun gave me a mini Keurig for Christmas and he has since filled my stash with a few fun flavors to keep it interesting...Dunkin' Donuts Hazelnut and Kahlua to name a couple! It gives coffee that extra oomph it needs to get me going.

Fuzzy slippers...with support!

I have serious foot issues - in that my feet seem to hurt me all the time - and so I always look for shoes that offer a little support. This rings true for slippers too! Shaun also gave me these sweet, cozy and comfy Tamarac moccasin slippers for Christmas. They are cute enough to wear outside and comfy enough to stand in the kitchen cooking for an afternoon. Win-win!

Biscoff Spread

I had received a jar of this deliciousness during the December foodie pen pals exchange. Admittedly with so many goodies around Christmas and New Year's, I didn't give it a proper dig-in until recently. The verdict? I am really loving the flavor! Just a little bit goes a long way. And for just 2 WW Points+ per tablespoon...I think it's totally worth it! In fact, I have a little ww-friendly dessert coming up next week to share with you, featuring Biscoff!

DIY Tortilla Chips

I am mildly obsessed with these lately! You may have seen me post about these on The Peach & The Pit a few weeks back, so be sure to head over to get the recipe. They are so easy and so worth the effort. Oh and 12 chips is only 2 WW Points+. Not kidding. I have like 1 million ideas for these guys, so stay tuned!

OPI's Suzy Says Feng Shui

I think this is my all-time favorite nail polish color. I adore blue polish and this is the perfect muted dark blue. I especially love breaking it out in the winter months. It's from OPI's Hong Kong collection of yore, but it still tops my list of fave colors. I plan to be rocking this for the weekend since we have a party tomorrow evening...and it totally works to cheer on the Giants for Sunday! Superbowl, here we come!

I hope you all have the best weekend ever! I have a few parties to attend and plan to get a lot done around my apartment!

What are you loving this week?

What are your weekend plans?

psst...It's The Peach & The Pit of the Week over on our *sister* blog! Head over to see our highs and lows this week...and share yours! Please tell us we aren't alone in having some really low lows this week!

Five Things Friday

Hi friends! Sorry I left you hanging yesterday. I just don't really know where this week has gone! I've been incredibly busy at work and at home, so I'm sorry for choosing to sleep in my poor planning skills of late.

But anyway.

It's Friday! Hooray! I'm doing the happy dance up in here. And the long weekend is making me super happy, not to mention that the Giants AND the Golden Globes are on Sunday evening. Yay! And because it's Friday, here are my five things!

A-mazing readers

My blogging platform doesn't allow me to respond directly to comments when you leave them, but I just want to say that your kind words on my 'In 2012' post still have me smiling from ear to ear. Thank YOU for reading and for making my blog one that I love to write everyday. I heart you :)

Maybooks Agenda

My mom gifted me with this for Christmas and I love it so much. It's personalized and the pages are outlined by day of the week with spaces for mini-lists. Not to mention that its a skinny book that can fit in just about any purse without taking up a ton of room.

Under Armour Running Capris

I've been wearing these to the gym and loving them. They are fitted but not too tight. It feels like you're wearing...well, nothing. And that's how I like it ;)

Low(er) carb dinners that rock

We whipped up this roasted chicken breast with pesto (frozen from the summer days) and a bit of mozzarella cheese. Mixed with some roasted asparagus, it was a fantastic meal. It's all low carb and low fat. And 100% delicious.

Essie Cocktail Bling

I have a weird obsession with all things gray, but I love that this is slatey but happy. If that makes sense. I'm rocking it right now and can't help but stare at my own nails.

So there you have it! My five things for today.

Questions of the Day:

What are your things this week?

What are your weekend plans?

I have a dentist appt, will be watching the Giants & Golden Globes and then going out for restaurant week lunch with Shaun on Monday. All good things! Well, except for that whole dentist thing...
