Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Falling for Good TV

We are full swing into fall and I'm rounding up my favorite show picks for the season!

Always first on the list: Sons of Anarchy! It's the final season and though it's been hard to watch (Jax, WWTT?), I'm savoring every last moment, especially those featuring a shirtless Charlie Hunnam and a soundtrack that just keeps getting better and better. I'm not quite sure where this season is going, but I'm happy to go along for the ride.

Favorite new show:
How to Get Away With Murder. I knew that any Shonda Rimes show deserved at least a look and I'm so glad we tuned in for this one. There was a lot set up in this first ep and I can't wait to see where it goes. Bonus surprise appearance by the always exciting Billy Brown, AKA Mike from Dexter and Sons' August March.

The Mindy Project: I'm late to the party on this one but this is one of my new favorite shows. So funny, so sweet and features fun guest appearances by Always Sunny alum.

New Girl: I've watched since the beginning and while this one struggles for me at times, the addition of Daman Wayans, Jr. breathed some new life into the show. It's clear he got some of those stellar comedic genes and destined for a long and hilarious career.

Parenthood: Always one of my favorite shows and kind of a sleeper hit in that I always forget how great this show is until I sit down to watch it. It's the final season and I'm sure extra tissues will be needed for these last 13 eps.

Orange is the New Black: It's not new, but we are still getting through it. The second season just isn't as gripping for me as the freshman offering, but I'm still excited to watch the rest.

Jeopardy: Our nightly staple. Is it weird that I was positively giddy when new eps began airing and we could stop tuning in to Tournament of the Decades reruns?

The Walking Dead: Season 5 premieres on Oct 12, and I'm counting down the days. Last season really upped its game (look at the flowers. Lizzie! gah!), and left us wondering...what is Terminus? is cannibalism now a thing? am I crazy or was there something happening between Beth & Darryl? Where is Beth?! These are the questions I need answered.

So that's what I'm loving on TV lately.

What are your favorite shows this Fall?

What Are You Watching Lately?

For those of you asking about the cauliflower pizza recipe mentioned in yesterday's post, I've added links back in the original post, and also linking to the original recipe here. I edited this to be Dukan friendly (e.g., I used all fat free cheese, skipped the parmesean, added oregano, used plain tomato sauce with no sugar added, and topped mine with turkey pepperoni!)

As summer approaches, it seems as though there's simply nothing left on TV. I know that the wave of summer shows will hit soon, but for now we're in that in between time of season finales and summer premieres. With that in mind, here's what we are still watching as of late.

Game of Thrones.
Oh how I love this show. I think this season is its best yet. So much action, great storylines and I really just can't get enough. They left us hanging this week with no Memorial Day weekend episode and I am dying to find out how this trial by combat turns out. I haven't read the books, so I'm going into it completely blind...and I'm totally riveted. Peter Dinklage 4E.

Jeopardy.
An old favorite and great standby. We really got into the Tournament of the Decades which really renewed my love and desire to watch it every night. Since there's no way to watch it at 7 each night, we have a stockpile on the DVR...you know, for those romantic evenings on the couch...

Justified.
We're still plotting along with this one, and every season, I just don't get tired of it...even when the storyline gets thin and I'm not entirely sure what's going on...I still can't get enough Raylan or Boyd...And there's never, ever enough screen time of the two of them together. The writing is phenomenal and we find ourselves laughing as much as cringing at the violence. We're in the throes of season 5 and I'm quite unsure as to what we'll do when that ends since we've had this series in the hopper for the last 8 months.

That's about it for tv viewing these days. Our time is always limited in the evenings anyway, but I'd love some suggestions for Netflix or Amazon Prime viewing...any suggestions?

I am also looking for suggestions for a series to watch on our annual Aruba trip, coming up in just 5 weeks! Last November, we started Justified and it was perfection. I'm tossing around the idea of Suits or White Collar. And aside from that, I'm looking for a series to watch on my own without Shaun (for those nights he is out or wants to watch something I dislike, like the Mets). That shortlist includes Scandal and Revenge.

Please share your viewing pleasure in the comments!

Making My Week Better...

Sons of Anarchy season 4 is available on DVD today.

Shaun and I plowed right through seasons 1, 2 and 3 with a mad furor earlier this year. I was convinced that season 4 had already been released on DVD and so I told Shaun that we need not worry about going through episode after episode...we had plenty more to watch!

Yeah, then when I went to order season 4 and realized it wouldn't be released until August 28...and it set in that we had about 6 months to kill in between. Sigh.

It's one of the best shows I've seen (and sadly, I've seen a lot).

We left season 3 fairly wrapped up and with an amazing finale to boot. Jax, how I've missed you!

I can't wait to get my mitts on this one. And thanks to Amazon Prime, the mitts will be happy on Thursday morning.
