Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Welcome to my world!

The Limited Haul

I feel as though I'm always working on my wardrobe. Always trying to find the balance of professional, young, fresh, semi-fashionable and comfortable...putting my best, flattering foot forward but without the binding clothing that causes discomfort. One of my biggest issues always seems to be tops and blouses for work or for an elevated weekend look.

I always love The Limited for their simple classic styles, totally reasonable prices and ease of mixing and matching. This weekend I went a little nuts with a wardrobe makeover utilizing a Christmas gift card from my parents. Shopping was made even more fun because my mom and sisters came also! Of course, Kimberly, Christine and I ended up with a lot (if not all) of the same styles, but that's how our joint shopping trips usually go!

Here's what I ended up with:

Scallop hem top (in both light pink & silver)

Glossy front hi-lo top (in navy)

Leopard print blouse (in red snake)

Dolman sleeve sweater (in both silver & camel; which seems to be sold out)

Printed exact stretch ankle trouser pants (in red & black polka dot)

Short faceted gemstone necklace (in blue)

It felt great starting the week with lots of new options that I felt great wearing! It seems like a lot (and it is!) but with their huge sale happening plus virtual dollars that my mom had, I got this entire haul for $226. Add in a gift card and the end cost was significantly less. But even for $226, I thought this was totally reasonable for 4 blouses, 2 sweaters, 1 pair of trousers and 1 gemstone necklace. That averages out to less than $30 per item!

Oh and while were on the topic of the Limited, I should also note my other favorite Limited item: the Ashton blouse. I didn't get any this time, but I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I own 6 of the long sleeve styles and 3 of the sleeveless (I've been collecting them over the last bunch of seasons)...they make any outfit look super adorable, chic and simple to wear. These blouses barely wrinkle, hang just right and can be worn so many different ways. I highly recommend!

So that's what you'll find me wearing over the next few months until Springtime arrives!

What are your favorite places to shop?

Do you buy the same item in multiple colors once you find something you love? (I always do!)

Have you had any good hauls lately?

psst...I wasn't paid, perked, or discounted for this blog post. I actually do shop at The Limited for a lot of my clothing and paid for all of this with my very own $$$.

Serial

Are you guys listening to Serial?

After my sister Christine and my friend Allie raved about their obsession with it, I had to give it a try.

I was hooked within the first 5 minutes.

Serial is a podcast featuring one story, told episodically week by week. Season 1 follows the story of a 1999 murder case in Maryland. In 1999, a high school senior, Hae Min Lee, was murdered and her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was convicted of the crime...but with so many inconsistencies and questions around the case, can we really be sure that he did it? When reporter Sarah Koenig (also the narrator of the story) was asked to look into this closed case by a family friend of Adnan, she quickly became fascinated with the case and developed what I will call an obsession. She befriended Syed, poured through case files, recreated timelines of the day the murder occurred, turned the investigation into a podcast and now shares it with the world.  A spin-off of NPR's This American Life, Serial is all the rage this days.

I've never been one to listen to podcasts, e-books or even the radio because I find that my mind wanders. With Serial, I look forward to my commute everyday so that I can listen! I only have 2 episodes left and man will I be bummed when it's done.

Have you listened to Serial? Are you as obsessed with it as I am?

What other podcasts or ebooks would you recommend?

Falling for Good TV

We are full swing into fall and I'm rounding up my favorite show picks for the season!

Always first on the list: Sons of Anarchy! It's the final season and though it's been hard to watch (Jax, WWTT?), I'm savoring every last moment, especially those featuring a shirtless Charlie Hunnam and a soundtrack that just keeps getting better and better. I'm not quite sure where this season is going, but I'm happy to go along for the ride.

Favorite new show:
How to Get Away With Murder. I knew that any Shonda Rimes show deserved at least a look and I'm so glad we tuned in for this one. There was a lot set up in this first ep and I can't wait to see where it goes. Bonus surprise appearance by the always exciting Billy Brown, AKA Mike from Dexter and Sons' August March.

The Mindy Project: I'm late to the party on this one but this is one of my new favorite shows. So funny, so sweet and features fun guest appearances by Always Sunny alum.

New Girl: I've watched since the beginning and while this one struggles for me at times, the addition of Daman Wayans, Jr. breathed some new life into the show. It's clear he got some of those stellar comedic genes and destined for a long and hilarious career.

Parenthood: Always one of my favorite shows and kind of a sleeper hit in that I always forget how great this show is until I sit down to watch it. It's the final season and I'm sure extra tissues will be needed for these last 13 eps.

Orange is the New Black: It's not new, but we are still getting through it. The second season just isn't as gripping for me as the freshman offering, but I'm still excited to watch the rest.

Jeopardy: Our nightly staple. Is it weird that I was positively giddy when new eps began airing and we could stop tuning in to Tournament of the Decades reruns?

The Walking Dead: Season 5 premieres on Oct 12, and I'm counting down the days. Last season really upped its game (look at the flowers. Lizzie! gah!), and left us wondering...what is Terminus? is cannibalism now a thing? am I crazy or was there something happening between Beth & Darryl? Where is Beth?! These are the questions I need answered.

So that's what I'm loving on TV lately.

What are your favorite shows this Fall?
