Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Welcome to my world!

Thursday Thoughts

1. The weather went from cold to rainy to sunny and gorgeous yesterday. My sinuses hate me and the world. But I'm excited that I can wear a skirt today.

2. Shaun has had fantasy baseball drafts all week. I'm not really so down with baseball season because I find it boring. And it goes on forever. Unless watching a game is accompanied by a hot dog and soft serve vanilla ice cream with sprinkles in a cup shaped like a baseball helmet...I'm not really so interested.

3. Last night I watched Something Borrowed. Again.

4. Last night I also went to the gym. Despite running a 5K on Sunday, my legs felt like they had lead in them, making it impossible to go more than 2 miles.

5. Yesterday I tried a deep-fried Milky Way. Yeah, it was pretty amazing. It made me long for hot summer days and boardwalk food.

6. I need a new book to read, stat. Help me!

7. I'm probably late to the party, but I'm so obsessed with this song:

And this one.

8. Last night I whipped up dinner in a flash and it was great. I cooked up some quinoa and roasted leftover broccoli and cauliflower. Topped the quinoa with a little soy sauce and voila...dinner in 15 minutes.

9. I also had a sweet triple chocolate banana milkshake. It was just as delicious as a few nights ago. I don't see why you can't replace the bananas with any fruit of your choice, for those of you who asked. Also, I got the straws from HeyYoYo's Etsy shop, along with some pretty cupcake liners. I had ordered them before the holidays and never used them. I decided that I'd rather just use them up on a making a random night a little special!

10. Shaun and I have been watching Jeopardy in the evening. Actually...we've been DVR'ing it so we can watch it when I get home from work. Not sure if I should feel sophisticated and intelligent or if I should be readying the jeriatric unit for our arrival.

11. I kind of have a crush on Josh Elliott from Good Morning America. Just sayin'.

12. Pauly D Project starts this evening...yay or nay? We will most likely watch it. He's cute.

So those are my thoughts today!

What's going on with you?

What songs are you digging?

What foods are you loving?

What shows are you watching? books are you reading?

I've been reading the Invisible Man... very different but good! Also, I heard the Divergent series are amazing... like the new Hunger Games.

love that somebody i used to know song...but they're really overplaying it here, which sucks.

Deep fried Milky Way? Can't be good.

Ugh to baseball. Thankfully the team my husband watches is never on TV where we live. :) Hehe.
Thank you for the heads up on Pauly D show - I will DVR it - LOVE Pauly!!

i think i'll try making the shake with frozen strawberries or raspberries. yum! =) by the way, i'm pretty sure i have the same straws - aren't they fun?

that shake looks insane! definitely picking up those ingredients at the supermaket this weekend.
I'm flying thru "Girls in White Dresses", it's pretty light and fluffy but a fast read.

I've been into non-fiction lately and apparently so has the book club I'm in. The books we've read so far that I've like are Mukiwa (a white boy growing up in Africa. Starts slow but picks up speed), The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (about the black woman whose cervical cells have been used for decades for medical research and the repercussions for her family. Issues of race and ethical medical practice make it a really good read), and In the Garden of Beasts (I'm finishing this one up now. It's about the American ambassador to Germany and his daughter towards the beginning of the Hitler years. It follows the decline of Germany from a unique perspective). That was a longer comment than I had intended (it could be the English teacher in me!), but I thought these we great, and I know how hard it is to find a good book sometimes! *P.S. If you want to read In the Garden of Beasts electronically, I accidentally bought the E-version and have no use for it (and I don't want it to go to waste). I could email it to you.

I too am obsessed with BOTH of those songs. Have you heard these? I have them all on repeat basically everyday.

"Midnight City" - M83
"Houdini" - Foster the People

I love the "we are young" song too! But just trust me on this one, the Glee version is INCREDIBLE!

Oops, the book is The Visible Man (not invisible)!
