Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Go-To Breakfasts, Instagram Edition

I wasn't always a huge fan of breakfast.

Ok, that's not entirely a true statement.

I've always loved eggs, pancakes and other decadent things, but there was a time when I never made eating breakfast each day a priority.

Now, I can't imagine going without breakfast in the morning! I often take photos of my breakfast, but since I don't food document here on the blog, I hardly ever share them. Here's a look at some of my favorites, Instagram-style!

sliced banana with peanut butter

egg white sandwich

berry-baked oatmeal

tea in my favorite mug

strawberry vanilla yogurt muffins

sliced apple & banana with peanut butter

veggie-filled frittata (and you may see my fave frittata here)

sliced bananas and peanut butter on toasted sandwich thin

homemade holiday cookies on Christmas morning

my favorite scrambled eggs, fontina & toast from 92Y TriBeCa

pumpkin oatmeal & piping hot coffee

banana, peanut butter & Wasa crackers

fancy French toast for Valentine's brunch

What are your go-to breakfasts?

Oh and if you aren't following me on Instagram, come on over so we can be friends! Find me @theavidappetite!

I still struggle REALLY bad with breakfast. I'm never hungry until about 9 or 10 and by then I feel like I should just wait for lunch. It's not that logical, but it seems to always make sense at the time!

oooooh you've been eatin good girl! i'm a cereal girl :)

I usually stick to really basic breakfasts - toast, eggs, oats. And I love bacon on the weekends.

your breakfasts look great! for breakfast, i almost always have the same thing: veggie sausage, cheddar + tomato on a homemade baguette. yum! on the weekends, sometimes i'll make bacon + eggs to fancy it up. =) also, i'm occasionally guilty of eating leftovers for breakfast - pasta, soup, whatever was good the previous evening!

There's a new study - isn't there one everyday - that eating a sweet with breakfast will help with weight loss. In Italy they usually eat a sweet roll or the equivalent for breakfast and they are all pretty fit. I guess the theory/fact is that it starts
your metabolism early in the day and the engine runs throughout the day rather than waiting for a sweet later in the day to get it started. Hey I guess Dunkin Donuts will stop at nothing! ;-)

Now I'm totally craving breakfast! When I started losing weight, I made breakfast a priority - Somedays I'll eat it three meals a day now! Love these pictures!

I love that peanut butter is usually involved, same for me:-) And I eat oatmeal almost every day... never gets old!

I love these combos! My breakfast on the weekdays are pretty predictable (read: boring): yogurt, banana, granola bars, or some homemade quick bread.
