Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

My Holiday Movie Musts

Happy Hump Day! Is it me or does it seem like it should be farther along in the week by now?

Anyhow, thank you so much to all the ladies who participated in the Virtual Cookie Swap Party yesterday! If you missed it, make sure to check out all of the gorgeous cookie recipes from the swap.

This past weekend, Shaun and I got our Christmas tree. It's only like my favorite day of the year :) We have so much fun picking out the 'perfect' tree, setting it up and decorating.

In true urban living fashion, we get our tree from the 14th Street Garden Center in Jersey City, which is just outside the Holland Tunnel. Many people drive to Western NJ to cut down there tree, or at least head to a real farm...but we've been getting our tree here for 4 Christmases now, and every year we have a gorgeous, full tree that lasts throughout the season.

So now that our tree is up, for me, it's all about the Christmas movies! I always have a list of holiday movies that I simply must see before the end of the season. To me, there is nothing better than throwing on a pair of flannel holiday pajamas, whipping up some hot cocoa and watching a holiday classic. Here are some of my favorites...

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

I mean...it just never gets old. Even as we were tree shopping, whenever Shaun asked me what I thought of one or another, I'd say 'Little full, lotta sap'...it probably got old after the first time, but I found myself to be hilarious. I could quote the whole movie, but I'll leave it as a movie that simply must be watched every holiday.

Elf

A newer classic, but also one that always makes me laugh and warms my heart. I also adore an appearance from Artie Lange as the department store Santa. Sigh.

Scrooged

I think this is a lesser known movie but hilarious and fantastic all the same. It follows Bill Murray as an Ebaneezer Scrooge-like TV exec who is visited by 3 ghosts. It just cracks me up every time...it's definitely one of my favorite A Christmas Carol adaptations.

Love, Actually

If this movie doesn't warm your heart, I don't know what will. It's a huge and fabulous British cast (including Andrew Lincoln from The Walking Dead! Eeee!). It makes me laugh, cry and just feel all fuzzy and happy.

The Family Stone

This one is a little depressing, but I just love this cast so very much. Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, Dermot Mulroney...not to mention that the crazy family dynamic makes me feel right at home.

A Christmas Story

It makes me think of watching it over and over on Christmas morning while TBS airs it for 24 hours. Always hilarious and fun...just don't break that fra-gil-e lamp.

A Muppets Christmas Carol

I know, it's silly, but it makes me feel like a kid again. Plus, the music is awesome.

I think that just about covers it. Since I've not yet watched any of these movies, I really need to get on it starting this weekend!

Question of the Day:

What are your must-see holiday movies?

"Love, Actually" is and probably always be my favorite movie, year round. So glad it made your list! I still cry every single time I watch it.

Christmas Vacation is hands down number one! Love that movie!

A more recent fav for me is Bad Santa with Billy Bob Thorton. Such a hilarious movie.

Your tree is gorgeous!!! I wanted to watch HOme ALone the other day but I couldn't convince my husband. :)

Ahh I forgot to include Home Alone (and Home Alone 2!)!

Your tree looks great! Hubs and I still need to get one. Can't wait to have it up finally.

My favorite movies are The Christmas Story, which is a tradition to watch on TBS every Christmas all day, The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Wislet, so cute, and Elf is just plain fun to watch!

A Christmas Story is one of my all-time least favorite movies - tied with What About Bob! I don't know if it's because we didn't watch it growing up and I don't it now, but I won't even be in the same room if it is on!

I love LOVE love Elf. I watch it all year long!
