Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Welcome to my world!

Gone South

Tonight I took a little trip down south. Down south to Atlanta for a little work trip. Unfortunately it's not any warmer down here than up north. I kicked off my trip with a little beer 'n books at the airport bar while I waited for the plane. I was just finishing up Naked Heat (it's the novel from the show Castle...anyone? Pure cheese, but pure fabulousness) on the Kindle, so it was nice to have some time to unwind before cramming onto the tiny Delta flight!

Once we landed in Atlanta (on time!), I headed over to MARTA, the local subway system to get to my hotel. I could have hopped in a cab, but I always like taking public transportation. It makes me feel like I'm learning even more about the city I'm visiting. Plus, my feeling is that if I can navigate the NYC subway system, I'm ready to take on the world!

And I have. Here's my sister Kimberly and me hopping a subway in Budapest when Shaun and I visited her in Eastern Europe in '07. We liked to pretend we were super touristy (which we were) and took mostly thumbs up pics throughout the trip!

Once I got to the hotel, I picked up dinner in the hotel cafe. Apparently this is what $13.00 gets you at an Atlanta hotel:

New York City where are you at a time like this? Luckily when Shaun joins me down here tomorrow night, we have big plans to sample some real Southern cuisine! Spoiler alert: There will be fried chicken and peach cobbler. I'm all about sampling local delights to see how it's done right! Just sayin'.

So that's part one of my little Atlanta getaway. Tomorrow I'm at a trade show all day and then the fried chicken will commence. So what about you? Do you like to sample local cuisine? How about the local transportation?

I love Atlanta and am overdue for a visit (went to Emory for college)! Can't wait to see what else you do there:-) I actually only took Marta once my entire time at Emory and decided never again after that experience!

That may be the saddest looking sandwich i've ever seen!!! Yay for sister love!!!!-I love souther cuisine..but then again, I love all cuisine! Enjoy and soak it up!

Welcome to Atlanta! How long are you going to be in town? Earlier this week, everything (including Marta) was shut down due to ice. Glad it was working just in time for your trip. Where are you going for dinner?

Luckily my flight got in with no problems, though it is SUPER icy here! I almost fell a few times on the way to the hotel. We have a few places in mind - South City Kitchen (where I went for my lone birthday dinner while I was here in July) and Shaun just found a place called Mary Mac's Tea Room, which looks like real down home Southern cooking. We have a few other things up our sleeve while we're in town, so stay tuned!

And yes Kim, we are obviously the portrait of cool.

I love sampling local cuisine, checking out new restaurants of wherever I am, that's half the fun of traveling!

I like to take public transportation too just because it's usually so much easier and you learn the city so much better that way.

Trips with siblings are always fun! Can't wait to see more of your trip!
That expensive sandwhich on the other hand.... not fun. Hotel food is always a sham!

I love sampling local cuisine! We try to do that in every city we go to---and have found some really awesome things to try at home as a result. Transportation depends on the city...whenever it's practical!

I've never been to Atlanta even though it's only a few hours away. I'd really love to go, though. I hear Emory's gorgeous!
