Chocolate Covered Banana Oats
There was a time in my life when I didn't eat breakfast. I literally could go from my morning wake up call to 12 or 1 in the afternoon on only a cup (or 3) or coffee.
How did I do that?!
Once I gave in to the whole breakfast-is-the-most-important-thing-ever thing, I never looked back. Now, breakfast is a must, every.single.morning. I don't really have a standard breakfast. I'm an equal opportunity eater.
Sometimes I like a yolky eggs overeasy (especially when Shaun makes them for me) with a bit of crispy, buttery toast. Sometimes I go basic scrambled eggs with a little bit of cheddar cheese.
Pretty much anytime I can eat fluffy pancakes coated in real maple syrup. I actually can't think of too many things that are better than that.
On a weekday, you can often find me toting a green monster smoothie to work. I fill my smoothies with bananas, almond milk, peanut butter, protein powder, and sometimes blended oats.
But sometimes, I get tired of the liquid breakfast on-the-go. And that's when I have oatmeal. I've had it so many different ways, but my latest creation is by far my favorite. Occasionally, oatmeal can be so dry and tasteless. But not my chocolate covered banana oats!
I know. You are probably thinking I am nuts for making this sweet treat my breakfast. But trust me. It's so delicious. The cool bananas are a wonderful burst of flavor. The lite chocolate syrup is not overly sweet but also adds another level of moistness to the otherwise dry oats. Have I ever steered you wrong?
Chocolate Covered Banana Oats
1/2 C quick oats (or old-fashioned)
1 C milk (I use unsweetened almond)
pinch of salt
1 packet of Splenda, or sweetener of your choice
1 banana, sliced
1-2 Tbsp lite or sugar free chocolate syrup (recommended: Hershey's)
Prepare your oats on the stovetop as directed. Stir in the sweetener. Layer the bananas on top. Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
I adore peanut butter in my oats. But the calorie and fat factor is a bit of a deterrent for me. I need something a little lighter, but still filling. Chocolate covered banana oats please!
So what do you think? Are you a breakfast eater? What is your go-to? Is chocolate syrup in your oats too sweet for a morning meal?

I normally have plain porridge with a bit of honey or jam for my breakfast, this actually really helped me to lose alot of my weight during dieting, its not really the best tasting but it sustained my hunger right through till mid afternoon. I really want to try that green monster smoothie, but im sure the UK doesnt stock Almond milk :(
Kelzie, you can easily use any milk that you like! Skim, soy, coconut, etc! Hope that helps friend! :)
I literally woke up this morning, saw this post and went downstairs to make it. So yummy and now I'm stuffed! Plus it's only 3 weight watchers points (I used water and not milk)
Chocolate in my oats will probably cause me to be hungry by 10:00am. Whenever I have sweet breakfasts, I'm starving by 10.
Dude, coffee is a wacky substance. You really can survive on it (I can say this thanks to grad school experiences), but you really shouldn't. Glad you are getting some great nutrition these days. :)
Chocolate syrup is not too sweet, I put nutella in my oatmeal ;)
I love Stephanie's suggestion of Nutella in my oatmeal but Nutella in anything would be fine with me. I used to use chocolate almond milk for my oatmeal but I think this would taste much much better!
PS I wish I had just one of those pancakes right now.
That looks SO good - bananas were on sale the other day, but I couldn't remember why I'd wanted them! Now I know!
Yummy treat!
I'm more of a savory breakfast person than sweet so it would probably be a little too sweet for me, but it looks heavenly!
I see nothing wrong with this for breakfast! It looks SO yummy! I say anything that gets you up & going in the morning is fine by me :)
Ohhh my gosh why have I never topped my oats with chocolate?? This looks so good!
Breakfast is my favorite meal and my body would never let me skip lol. I actually go for a biggish breakfast that is more calorie dense because otherwise I'll be starving 2 hours later. Chocolate and banana sound like a great way to start the day!!
yum! I love to sprinkle a little brown sugar on my oatmeal and then sliced bananas..the sugar almost caramelizes the bananas....delish! I'll have to try with chocolate! how can you go wrong?
yes, yes, yes..let me have it anytime, not only in the mornin', a deliciousness dessert for start a day with energy :)
