Hi, I'm Rachel.

A few years ago I could barely boil water.

True story.

Determined to be a kick ass wife, I developed a love for football and learned to cook in my tiny Jersey City kitchen. I spend my days working in Manhattan, my nights and weekends chasing after a rambunctious toddler, and the hours in between cooking with my husband and feeding my TV habit...oh, and I blog about it all!

Welcome to my world!

My New Cookbook

Happy St.P's Day! Though I don't recognize this as an actual holiday, last night I made a loaf of this and tonight we will be dining on this. Isn't everyone Irish today?

So a couple weeks ago, my sister Kimberly went to Holland on her spring break with her boyfriend Nick.

When they returned {and I stopped turning green with envy}, they had brought me back a gift.

It's a Dutch cookbook! Does my sister know me or does she know me?

I'm admittedly not completely familiar with Dutch cuisine. In fact, the closest I've ever come to Dutch food was at Linda's Pancakes in Aruba (which is in fact a Dutch island, by the by).

Oh how I wish I had one of these this morning. Anyhow, I cannot wait to dive into this cookbook!

With dishes like smoked salmon zebra and Dutch apple pie (oh my!), I feel like we've got a winner on our hands.

Oh and my favorite part thus far? The kissing porcelain dolls on the back.

So that's the story of my new cookbook that I can't wait to crack open. I am always a fan of trying out new foods and I love to see what other cultures eat! I think my favorite cuisine while traveling has been in Paris...steak, red wine, fries with mayo sauce...you really can't beat that! So what about you? What's your favorite international cuisine? Have you gotten any new cookbooks lately?

I don't know anything about Dutch cuisine so I can't wait to see what you make! I loved eating in France and Italy... I think they are tied for me:-)

Oh I'm jealous of your sister! I would love to go anywhere in Europe but the Greek Isles intrigue me the most! I have no new cookbooks but since I get so many great recipes through the blogosphere I feel like I dont need them ha

omg. jealous!!! i LOVE new cookbooks. can't wait to see what you make

My Aunt, who travels alot, gave me the idea of collecting cookbooks from every place I go, even if it's a small town in the US. I always try to find SOMETHING and now I have a good collection going. :) It's fun and something different. My last one was from Barbados. A lot of seafood and Rum recipes!

My favorite international cuisine has to be German. I was born there so it really hits home everytime I can find a German pastry or dish!

Oh my - embarrassing picture alert on the blogoshere!!

I can't wait to try some - and for the record - Nick was the one who spotted this store and said "We should get something for your sister in here..." - but the sales lady over heard me say, "I wish they had a Dutch cookbook in English" and was so happy because she had it.

Anyway - the bitterballen should be first on your list! Shaun will love them!

That book looks great!! are there any dutch baby recipes?? (Are those even dutch? Or did Americans just name them that...kinda like the French fry? Hm, now thats a question for Wikipedia!) Anyways, if there is a recipe for it, I would love it if you made one and shared it on here because I have been dyinggg to make one of those fluffy wonders :)

I love new cookbooks! I haven't gotten a new one in a while, but I can sit and read one for hours on end. I think the most recent was a year or so ago---Sarma Melngailis' newest raw food book.

The only Dutch food I'm familiar with is stroopwaffels (sp?), the delicious cookie sandwiches filled with caramel-y maple or honey. Ridiculously good.

I was given a German cookbook recently, but haven't used it yet - it includes recipes for homemade sausages, a million kinds of potatoes and cabbage. It also has lovely pictures and gives some historical information on different regions of the country.

What a fun cookbook! Always love receiving gifts from far away places. Looking forward to seeing what you cook up from it! My favorite cookbook at the moment is still my Pioneer Woman Cooks (www.pioneerwoman.com).

I love a new cookbook - especially an authentic one! I'm totally obsessed with re-creating authentic pho and falafel right now... but healthily, of course!
